#4 MUSIC and LYRICS

on high demand...
here comes the next review

firstly. i must admit the whole plot is bland, predictable, little oohing and aahing surprises and definitely not one sophisticated and inspiring film. He's a has-been pop star; she's a never-was. He writes the music, she writes the lyrics (thence the title MUSIC and LYRICS. a bit of a no-brainer over there) and together they bore you into a coma with their total lack of romantic chemistry.

The weird thing??? i still love LOVE the movie. i'm a terrible sucker for such films. the movie is witty. intelligent. amusing. an absolute entertaining romantic comedy that'll probably sweep most girls off with the ultimate sweetness and loveydoveyness...

omg. guys. if u wanna jio anybody. write her a song, play it using the piano and sing it. extra extra points if u sing it right in front of everyone. make that in a public concert. omgomgomgawd.. you'll win her over almost immediately... provided you dont sing out of tune that is.

so this's the supposed song they came out with together. it's so nice i've been replaying it over and over and over umpteen times i bet my housies can hum the entire tune out by now :P

Way back into Love
.
I've been living with a shadow overhead
I've been sleeping with a cloud above my bed
I've been lonely for so long
Trapped in the past,
I just can't seem to move on
*
I've been hiding all my hopes and dreams away
Just in case I ever need em again someday
I've been setting aside time
To clear a little space in the corners of my mind
*
All I want to do is find a way back into love
I can't make it through without a way back into love
Oh oh oh
*
I've been watching but the stars refuse to shine
I've been searching but I just don't see the signs
I know that it's out there
There's got to be something for my soul somewhere
*
I've been looking for someone to shed some light
Not somebody just to get me through the night
I could use some direction
And I'm open to your suggestions
*
All I want to do is find a way back into love
I can't make it through without a way back into love
And if I open my heart again
I guess I'm hoping you'll be there for me in the end
oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
*
There are moments when I don't know if it's real
Or if anybody feels the way I feel
I need inspiration
Not just another negotiation
*
All I want to do is find a way back into love
I can't make it through without a way back into love
And if I open my heart again
I guess i'm hoping you'll be there for me in the end...

DREAMGIRLS!!!!!

...all you have to do is dream...

hahha pardon the massive influx of movie reviews ;P

but seriously. when tickets are just 3.50, or even cheaper (when purchased with student beans). you cant resist the theatres seats can't you??

disclaimer before the actual review: the following review is totally unreliable. dont trust whatever i have to say. so basically either you choose to continue reading whatever crap nonsense im about to blabber in the next few paragraphs or so, or skip this entry and erh. read the rest. (which is probably not as exciting as mine though) oOoOOpss! back to the judgemental subjective review i have for this movie, this was the FOURTH movie i watched consecutively after the illusionist, ghostrider and music and lyrics.. yea it was almost BACK TO BACK so how sane and objective could i still remain to be after the whole 6 hours or so of movie watching???

and now for the review..

BEYONCE IS HOT!

i think that's about it for all that i can think of for the movie.

alright the general sypnosis is as follows:

"Set in the turbulent early 1960s to mid-70s, the tale follows the rise of a trio of women--Effie, Deena and Lorrell--who have formed a promising girl group called The Dreamettes. At a talent competition, they are discovered by an ambitious manager named Curtis Taylor, Jr., who offers them the opportunity of a lifetime: to become the back-up singers for headliner James Thunder Early. Curtis gradually takes control of the girls' look and sound, eventually giving them their own shot in the spotlight as The Dreams. That spotlight, however, begins to narrow in on Deena, finally pushing the less attractive Effie out altogether. Though the Dreams become a cross-over phenomenon, they soon realize that the cost of fame and fortune may be higher than they ever imagined." -- movietickets.com

yepp so you want to know if you’re going to waste your money watching it??? i think so. but this is definitely personal. i've read lotsa reviews on the movie and they were full of praises for it.

but well dream girls is a musical.. a musical that you don’t get to see live on stage. (!!!!) You’ll be in for a lot of emotions, a lot of visual splendor (beyonce is hot!) and a lot of singing, because well… this is a musical. so DUH lotsa singing. When it’s all over, you’ll go, wow the songs in the movie were pretty awesome! their voices were simply powerful so impactful and wowww! it was just poaw! pooooow! pooonngg! and whether you liked it or not is probably going to depend upon whether you liked the singing, because there was a lot of it, because, well… this is a musical!! and comm'on, we all know beyonce and jennifer hudson can sing...

but the whole point of a movie is not simply about the singing only. you can jolly well grab the soundtracks and listen to it. what i was disappointed about was the plot. That’s all I’m saying. typical movie plot. it's kinda predictable from the very start. the change of events, the ending, the conclusion and the moral of the story. no twist of events of any sort. and the movie got a bit too draggy and boring i almost fell asleep. alright i admit its isnt that hard for me to fall asleep in the cinemas but my point is i got so fed up with the plot i actually wished these people stopped singing so the movie ends right now and i can go back home for dinner.

and you know what. it's damn sad if a musical reaches a point when the audience thinks the actresses should stop singing. 'cos it's a musical and no singing wouldnt make a musical a muscial anymore. o whatever, you get what i mean!!

movie review!!

BECAUSE I SAID SO

an absolute sweet light hearted chic flick that will make you go awwww and whines "ohhnoooo" along with the plot. owell at least i did :P

anyway, the ever so eyecandy Mandy Moore plays Milly, a beautiful, appealing young woman who also happens to be a fantastic cook but JUST can't find her Mr. Right. Her mother is beginning to despair that her daughter will never find a mate. So, she decides to take matters into her own hands by running an internet classified ad seeking for a "life mate" for her daughter and then screens the candidates. She finds a successful architect and contrives for him to meet Milly. The meeting is successful and they start dating. At the same time, Milly encounters musician Johnny (who's superduper uberuber cute!!!) She is soon involved with both men and can't figure out how to disentangle herself from either relationship. Jason is the better catch (think rich successful stable, with a freaking gorgeous bachelor pad!!!!) but Milly can be more herself around Johnny (who's slightly more adventurous, sexy cute fun exciting and have i not mentioned? cute??? :P) basically it revolves choosing between a boring mr nice man vs exciting bad boy. ohhh. what a choice really!!!!

anyway, despite the mummy being the overbearing overprotective over the top typical mummy figure in the movie, she illustrates a truth about mother/daughter relationships. alright maybe she overdid it a teeny bit, but i thought the whole emotional r/s was portrayed really well and i though the whole movie isnt just a senseless brainless chickflick with high cuteness index.

it's cute. it's funny. it's entertaining.

or maybe im just terribly biased. in fact i thought i may jolly well be.

o well forget about the review.

guys watch the movie for mandy moore.
girls, you wun regret when you see gabriel macht.

Movie Reviews!

Movies Galore!

For the purpose of setting up this movie column, we have gamely watched loads of movies! So here comes the reviews!

Movie 01: The Number 23
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0481369/

The Number 23... is about a man becoming obsessed with the number 23 on his birthday February 3rd after pickin up a book entitled 23. After reading the book, Sparrows (Jim) realised the character of the book is very similar to himself and decides to link everything (such as names, date of birth, car plates, etc etc) to the number 23. In the book details a murder and as it slowly unfolds, Fingerling (the main character in the book) was a murderer before and wrote a book detailing on the murder. As it turns out... Sparrows is Fingerling! Ok.. no more spoilers... watch the movie if you must!

Basically the acting for the movie was terrific, but i can't say more regarding the plot. Personally it was a real draggy movie and that the links to the number 23 was extensive but nevertheless its kinda crappy! Watch this movie only if you are really bored and you have spare cash to spare!

Rating: 1 / 5 Jack daniels!

More reviews to come in a while!
