DREAMGIRLS!!!!!

...all you have to do is dream...

hahha pardon the massive influx of movie reviews ;P

but seriously. when tickets are just 3.50, or even cheaper (when purchased with student beans). you cant resist the theatres seats can't you??

disclaimer before the actual review: the following review is totally unreliable. dont trust whatever i have to say. so basically either you choose to continue reading whatever crap nonsense im about to blabber in the next few paragraphs or so, or skip this entry and erh. read the rest. (which is probably not as exciting as mine though) oOoOOpss! back to the judgemental subjective review i have for this movie, this was the FOURTH movie i watched consecutively after the illusionist, ghostrider and music and lyrics.. yea it was almost BACK TO BACK so how sane and objective could i still remain to be after the whole 6 hours or so of movie watching???

and now for the review..

BEYONCE IS HOT!

i think that's about it for all that i can think of for the movie.

alright the general sypnosis is as follows:

"Set in the turbulent early 1960s to mid-70s, the tale follows the rise of a trio of women--Effie, Deena and Lorrell--who have formed a promising girl group called The Dreamettes. At a talent competition, they are discovered by an ambitious manager named Curtis Taylor, Jr., who offers them the opportunity of a lifetime: to become the back-up singers for headliner James Thunder Early. Curtis gradually takes control of the girls' look and sound, eventually giving them their own shot in the spotlight as The Dreams. That spotlight, however, begins to narrow in on Deena, finally pushing the less attractive Effie out altogether. Though the Dreams become a cross-over phenomenon, they soon realize that the cost of fame and fortune may be higher than they ever imagined." -- movietickets.com

yepp so you want to know if you’re going to waste your money watching it??? i think so. but this is definitely personal. i've read lotsa reviews on the movie and they were full of praises for it.

but well dream girls is a musical.. a musical that you don’t get to see live on stage. (!!!!) You’ll be in for a lot of emotions, a lot of visual splendor (beyonce is hot!) and a lot of singing, because well… this is a musical. so DUH lotsa singing. When it’s all over, you’ll go, wow the songs in the movie were pretty awesome! their voices were simply powerful so impactful and wowww! it was just poaw! pooooow! pooonngg! and whether you liked it or not is probably going to depend upon whether you liked the singing, because there was a lot of it, because, well… this is a musical!! and comm'on, we all know beyonce and jennifer hudson can sing...

but the whole point of a movie is not simply about the singing only. you can jolly well grab the soundtracks and listen to it. what i was disappointed about was the plot. That’s all I’m saying. typical movie plot. it's kinda predictable from the very start. the change of events, the ending, the conclusion and the moral of the story. no twist of events of any sort. and the movie got a bit too draggy and boring i almost fell asleep. alright i admit its isnt that hard for me to fall asleep in the cinemas but my point is i got so fed up with the plot i actually wished these people stopped singing so the movie ends right now and i can go back home for dinner.

and you know what. it's damn sad if a musical reaches a point when the audience thinks the actresses should stop singing. 'cos it's a musical and no singing wouldnt make a musical a muscial anymore. o whatever, you get what i mean!!
